From my understanding, Sickle Cell Anaemia is a blood disorder whereby the oxygen cannot be transported around the body as efficiently as it should be. The main micro-mineral needed to facilitate the transportation of oxygen around the body is “Iron”. In actual fact, where an acute deficiency in “iron” is known as “Anaemia” or being “Anaemic”, “Sickle Cell Anaemia” is therefore an extreme iron deficiency.
Without enough oxygen being pumped around the circulatory system and into the vital bodily organs via the blood, many parts of the human body become deficient in, and are thus starved of, vital oxygen which is needed to maintain a state of vibrant health and vitality.
Red blood cells are designed to transport oxygen around the body, and when they are unable to carry out this task (due to lack of Iron), some of them begin to “fold-in” or “collapse” upon themselves. At which point, they begin to resemble that of a “Sickle”, in terms of their shape.
Contrary to popular belief, there is a simple “solution” to this “condition”;
Firstly, the diet must be changed (If not done so already). All refined and/or processed foods must be eliminated from the diet and one high in Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts and Seeds (Preferably Organic and consumed raw wherever possible) must be adopted. For an individual who is suffering from “Sickle Cell Anaemia”, great emphasis and preference must be placed upon the consumption of Dark Green Leafy Vegetables, as these contain extremely high amounts of Iron => Essential for one who may have an Iron deficiency of any kind.
Main Essential Nuts, Seeds, Fruits & Dark Leafy Greens High in Iron Include;
Avocados (also high in vitamin K essential for blood health in terms of clotting potential)
Lentils (preferably Sprouted)
Bell Peppers (Sweet Peppers Green, Red or Yellow)
Kale (This is my staple through the winter months, extremely High in Iron and many other nutrients!!)
But generally, all fruits and vegetables that can be eaten raw should be eaten generously and all “Processed Food” must be eliminated.
These also include;
Artificially Sweetened Beverages of any Kind
Commercial Fish, Meat & Poultry
Commercial Food products derived from Animals (Commercial Eggs, Commercial Cheese, Pasteurised Milk, Pasteurised Yoghurt..etc )
All Genetically Modified Foods (GMO Foods) including Fruits, Vegetables and Nuts.
(Highly)Processed and/or De-natured Foods of any kind.
Refined Grains (Wheat/Gluten)
Refined and/or Hydrogenated Oils
Now, in addition to the above dietary guidelines, a series of herbs can be taken in order to help speed up the healing process via the cleansing of the blood and the supplementation of bio-available iron. Many of these herbs also contain many of the B-complex group of Vitamins as well as calcium, magnesium, manganese and zinc which are all essential for the health of the blood as well as the organs that help with its purification (IE-:The Liver, Kidneys and Lymphatic System).
These Herbs include;
Milk Thistle Seeds
Red Raspberry Leaf
Oregano (Especially the Oil of It)
Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.
Depending upon the severity of the condition, it may take some individuals longer than others before they experience an improvement in their health. Remember, healing doesn’t happen over night. Unlike most prescribed “Pharmaceutical Drugs”, herbs tend to work gradually while actually getting to the root of the “disease” and rectifying the problem for good, rather than just eradicating the “symptoms” in isolation.
